National Ballast Information Clearinghouse

The National Ballast Information Clearinghouse (NBIC) collects and analyzes shipping and ballast water data from all commercial ships arriving the United States from foreign ports. These data are used to determine national patterns of ballast water delivery and ballast water exchange in accordance with the National Invasive Species Act of 1996. We maintain a relational database that is available to the public for online queries. The data collected by NBIC are synthesized and incorporated into reports for the U.S. Coast Guard, Secretary of Transportation, and the U.S. Congress.
